STAR WARS THE OLD REPUBLIC ONLINE HAS GONE SJW MOVIE
(The movie gets a bit ahead of itself with the Porgs, small, *ahem*, chickenlike birds, which are almost but not quite the sequel trilogy’s Ewoks, from Return of the Jedi.) The significant callbacks are the ones that tease our nerdy conjectures but pay them off in ways that make it impossible to call this a xerox of Empire. This game is FAR from perfect even without the bugs, but it is amazingly fun. And, indeed, there are many callbacks to Empire here: the smallest ones are visual, and often clever (the rebel-hideaway planet that looks like Hoth is covered not with snow but with salt) or shiver-inducing (Imperial walkers stomping across that salt!), but those are ultimately inconsequential. I feel this could be addressed better and the frequency of these types of matches reduced with better game design. The way the game is now, some games are a blast, while a lot are basically you see no one for 20 minutes and just run the entire time until after 20 minutes of just the same old running and looting, someone picks you off from a distance with a sniper rifle and you never even get to see an enemy after boringly wasting 20 minutes of your life. There's also tons of places on the map where you can get stuck with no way out without just exiting and forfeiting, again wasting 20 minutes.Īnd frankly, I think the game would be a lot more fun if the map was just a little smaller and closed a little quicker. A generic looking skirt?Ī lot of things are just needlessly clunky, like I wish you'd automatically go back to reloading your gun after it gets cancelled because you started opening a door. The stuff in the loot drops is really pathetic too and needs to be fleshed out. People way off in the distance or camping buildings already have a big enough advantage of getting the first shots off, and not everyone has amazing headphones too be able to pinpoint shot directions. People might argue that's not realistic, but I sure as heck know at least where in my body I'm getting shot in real life and sometimes, realism should not trump fun. The game REALLY needs directional markers when you're getting shot, especially in first person mode. Vehicles still have ridiculous physics, explode in weird situations, don't go realistically fast, and you're way too vulnerable in some of them. As it stands, you just have to play A TON before you get decent at the shooting. The game also desperately needs either a simple team death match mode or a practice mode ala Overwatch, not because I think it would be fun but because the shooting is very unique and each gun is unique and you need a place just to practice and learn to shoot some of these weapons and get used to controls, especially shooting moving targets at a distance and figuring out zeroing in (which the game would probably be better without). The game could also really use some quick radial menus, one to switch weapons and choose grenades, one to change attachments on your current weapon, and one to choose and use a medical item. (Ask me if you want to know my settings because they helped a ton). I mean, who's ever heard of using page up and page down to switch between players you're observing? And the default setup is just ridiculous and could be massively improved. The controls are atrocious compared to other games - it uses nearly every button on the keyboard when it doesn't need to.

Even if the game were bug free and running like a well oiled machine, it still wouldn't be perfect. Dillydadally 1731d ago (Edited 1731d ago )Įxactly.
